Howard Shore is a skilled executive and trusted advisor who brings decades of broad experience in the Ontario healthcare marketplace to DRs.
Howard’s introduction to the concerns of physicians throughout Ontario came via his family’s business, DRs Doctor’s Replacement Service – the province’s first referral, on-call house-call service and pioneered 3rd party billing services, beginning in 1968. Howard successfully managed the company and its successor– MD on Call, which provided locum coverage and consulting services to physicians and institutions in Canada and the United States.
In 1995 Howard was asked to brief then Liberal leader Lyn McLeod on issues concerning home health care and joined the Party’s Joint Task Force on Healthcare Allocations. He has been featured on various local and national media as a leading expert on healthcare business issues. Between 1997 and 2000, Howard was an elected Trustee on the York Region District School Board where he held the position of Vice Chair and successfully oversaw negotiations with four different labour unions.
In 2004 Howard joined the New Leader’s Cabinet of the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation and in 2006 became its Chair, helping raise funds for neurosurgery, colorectal cancer, Emergency and Trauma services amongst other areas.
From 2006 to 2009 Howard held leadership positions with both public and privately held companies creating and implementing successful non-OHIP/uninsured services plans, preventive care bonus and electronic medical records solutions as well as being responsible business development and implementing healthcare services for family physicians in primary care models.
Howard is an avid marathon-runner who competed in the 2005 World Masters Games in Edmonton.
